WineShouts – 03/13/2015 Edition

Happy Friday the 13th wine lovers!  Need to stave off potential bad mojo on Friday the 13th?  We’ve put together a few spots where you can get some magic elixir this weekend in L.A.  and points North.  Know about another great spot or event this weekend?  Please let us know in the comments or send us an email (see below).  Cheers!

Cult Burgundy tasting at domaineLA (Los Angeles) – 3/15/2015

Hot ticket at domaineLA this weekend.  If you want to get your French on, this should be a delicious way to do it with tastings from Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey and Domaine Marc Roy, including an example of old vines from each.  Cheese included.  Sunday from 2-5 PM.  Click the link above for more details.

The Cave at the Ventura Wine Company (Ventura)

The Cave has a new chef and has just released their new menu for March, and it looks great.  Always delicious bites to go with their great wine tasting.  See our review here.  Check it all out on their Facebook page.  We are going up to “investigate” ourselves.  Also raise some bubbly while you’re there for Manager/Owner Nikki, who just welcomed a vintage 2015 baby boy.  Congrats, Nikki!

Exploring Argentina – Wine Tasting with wineLA (Los Angeles)

Ian Blackburn at wineLA  runs killer wine tasting events for all levels.  This time he’ll bring out as many as 20 great examples of Malbecs, as well as blends and other wines from Argentina.  Want to jump up your skill level and familiarity with Malbecs?  This is the best way to do it.  Wines are served with empanadas and a cheese plate.  #winner #nomnom

Food, Wine and Photography tour of the Funk Zone (Santa Barbara)

Mrs. Couch turned us on to this fun looking group tour run every week by the folks at Eat This, Shoot That!  If you haven’t hit the Funk Zone off the bottom of State Street in Santa Barbara yet, this looks to be a great way to check it out.  Tour tasting rooms and eateries in the Funk Zone, and get photography tipsy…err…tips as you go.  Hot tip, take the Amtrak up from L.A. and take driving out of the equation.  The train station in SB is a block from the Funk Zone.  Also, plentiful Uber available in Santa Barbara.  If you take the last train home, it’s definitely the “party” train after a day in the Funk Zone.   We were up last weekend and can vouch that the passengers were louder than the train.

Bacon & Bubbly at Wineexpo (Santa Monica)

5 Champagnes paired with 5 different artisanal bacons?  Bacon goes with everything right?  Hell, yeah!  Wineexpo does their Bacon & Champagne Fest once a month and you’ve got to get over there to try it.  Served with a snack plate.  Stay and enjoy this happening wine bar and shop and brush up on your Italian wines while you’re there.  Click the link above to see this weekend’s list of champagnes and bacons.

Brunello tasting at Woodland Hills Wine Co. (Woodland Hills) – 3/14/2015

For their Saturday wine tasting this week, Woodland Hills Wine Company is offering flights of either Italian white varietals, or Brunello.  If you like the big chewy deliciousness that is Brunello, here’s a shot to try four of them.  They haven’t trotted out any of the lauded 2010 vintage here, but I suspect they can help you get your hands on some.

Spanish tasting at Moe’s Fine Wines (Brentwood) – 3/14/2015

Moe is breaking out a nice variety of 5 Spanish pours for $10 from 3-6 PM.  We like Moe and his shop, and recommend you drop in anytime.
