WineShouts – 03/20/2015 Edition

Happy weekend wine lovers!  We’ve put together a few spots where you can get your wine on this weekend in L.A.  and points North.  Know about another great spot or event this weekend or upcoming?  Please let us know in the comments or send us an email (see below).  Cheers!

Taste of Solvang

The ever charming Solvang hosts it’s annual Taste of Solvang event this weekend.  A plethora of food, wine and beer is available as you stroll through town and enjoy what looks to be perfection weather up there this weekend (77 and Sunny on Saturday).  Tickets are reasonably priced and can be bought here.  Still available as of Friday afternoon.   There is also a winemaker dinner with Michael Larner of Larner Vineyards.  Larner is a cool guy and he makes great Grenache.   Highly recommended!

Wine and Charcuterie Pairing at Four Brix (Ventura)

A special tasting event at their BrixHouse tasting room in Ventura.  Charcuterie from Mills & Co Meat and Provisions will be paired with the wines of Four Brix.  Chef Gavin Mills and winemaker Gary will be presenting the pairings and hanging with the guests.

The Wine House (Los Angeles)

Nice self serve tasting room with enomatic machines with a nice selection of wines to choose from.  Great way to try some new labels.  Check out their current line up by clicking their name above.  Be sure to try the Tavel Rosé from the Rhone, the Flowers Pinot, and at least one other wine you’ve never tried before.

Italian vs. Cal-Italian at Wades Wines (Westlake Village)

Wades is pouring Italians wines alongside California grown Italian varietal wines for a head to head comparison.  There are some great Italian style wines being made in California right now.  Palmina is probably the best known SoCal brand specializing in Italians.  My favorite Cal-Italian label currently is Unti Vineyards in Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County.  If you haven’t tried their Barbera or Sangiovese yet, find a way.

Stars of Napa Valley – Thursday 3/26 (Manhattan Beach)

This annual event has moved to the Shade hotel for the first time this year, and hosts a fantastic line up of top notch Napa wineries showing off their wares.  Click the event name above to see the list of wineries.  Hosted by wineLA, this event brings out all the trade/industry folks in the afternoon, then opens the floodgates to the wine drinking public in the evening.  Tons of great wines to discover here.

Garagiste Festival:  Southern Exposure 3/27-3/29 (Solvang)

The Garagiste Festival is focused on showcasing tiny winemakers and those just getting started.  Particularly they focus on wineries making less than 1500 cases per year.  It’s a great way to explore new wines, meet and network with budding winemakers and to find some real gems.  These are folks who don’t have tasting rooms and they really want to meet you and show off their juice.  Always a fun, friendly event with great access.
